hey. Just wondering if there are any other long time fans of northern soul/motown here, mostly 60s/70s stuff, the moments/whatnauts, the delfonics, james brown etc...

Well, I'm 25 but have always loved Motown from the 60's and 70's. I have a few records of it as well as cds. I used to love to listen to The Rhythm Review until they changed the station for it. That thing is always moving somewhere else!

As a decoder of hip-hop break beats I definitely appreciate the old school. More importantly though I like the music besides figuring out who sampled it. Although I am grateful that hip-hop music brought out artists that would have been forgotten about. If it wasn't for Public Enemy number one, people might have forgotten about The J.B's and the Blow your Head Soundtrack. If it wasn't for the Beat Nuts, people might have forgotten about rare groups like Bobbie Humphrey's and Albert King. It is because of my recollection of those groups in the first place that sparked a memory for me when listening to hip-hop and producers like Premiere and Diamond D. Years ago Pete Rock revealed that his father left to him ten thousand records or so of old soul and R an B. You can hear it in his music. Everything from the Ambassadors to Three Degrees and of course, James Brown. Even groups people don't remember like Mel and Tim singing Groovy Situation and Donny Hathaway and Ghetto music. More importantly it's the old hip-hop that brings out the old funk so before you say to yourself that rap music is crap music or any other criticism, just remember that the new generation of music listeners would not have known anything about the groups from the seventy's if it wasn't for the M.C's and the D.J's using the music. Scratching back to back with break beat loops for hooks and things. Making you bob your head and ask where that stuff comes from. Also the up and coming D.J's buying two copies of the records so they can flip it. Also the producers re-releasing old funk joints so cats can put it in their collections. So yes I love the old music. Put me in the category of: Well to quote Q Tip: "It's all about vibes and stuff." Good lookin out for this topic and this board. Chat soon.

I love sharing music and I've encoded a lot of my wax to the computer so look me up if you're interested. I don't charge a thing but it be nice if you had things to share too. If not I like having friends to talk about this stuff with and play the music quote game. I also take part in a bit of D.J'ing and recorded lots of turn table tracks if anyone wants to hear them. All I ask is that with whom I share them with, they love music like me and have a real understanding of some of this stuff. As I'm kind of shy when it comes to showcasing. Just drop me a voice mail or something if you want to know more.

I also love to play the music quote game if anyone understands that. The only time I get to play that game is with my D.J. friends but I wish just everyday folk was in to that. Call my voice mail and quote something old and see if I get it. If it's new school stuff I probably won't understand but don't be discouraged.

I'll give you a quote for instants and you can put it out here or play in your head. "I got a thousand old records in my crib, I use to hustle but I never did a bid."
